What Are Aloe Socks?

Aloe socks are coverings for the feet that are made from a fabric that has been infused with aloe vera or socks that have an internal coating of aloe vera. Aloe is a powerful moisturizer, capable of accelerating the healing of dry skin and softening thick calluses. Typically made from a blend of spandex and nylon, these types of socks are worn to moisturize and soothe the feet. Aloe-infused socks are usually worn for only a short time and are not recommended for use inside a pair of shoes where they can produce sweating and significant shifting of the foot inside footwear.

There are two different ways aloe vera can be applied to socks. Aloe socks can be infused with aloe vera, or they can have a light coating of aloe vera applied along the inside of the sock. In addition, these types of socks can either completely cover the foot from the tip of the toes to just above the ankle, or they can be open at the toes and can be worn during a pedicure.

These specialty socks can be purchased ready to wear, or they can be made by hand. One way to make aloe socks is to purchase a pair of soft socks composed of a nylon and spandex blend. Next, turn the socks inside out and lightly coat the socks with an aloe vera lotion. Finally, wipe away the excess lotion and then turn the socks right side out for wearing. The second way aloe socks can be made is by knitting a pair of socks using aloe-infused yarn, which is available at specialty yarn shops.

Aloe is a very effective moisturizer, penetrating deep into the skin to hydrate even the deep underlying layers of the dermis. Feet are often plagued by dry, cracking skin, which can lead to sores and sometimes the development of painful calluses. Aloe socks are a great way to combat the dry skin while relieving and soothing tired feet.

Socks infused with aloe should not be worn in shoes and should be worn for only a few hours at a time. Aloe-infused socks create a barrier that locks sweat against the skin, preventing the moisture from evaporating. The moist environment created in this situation can lead to athlete’s foot or unpleasant foot odor. Aloe-infused socks should also not be worn inside shoes. The aloe inside the fabric can be fairly slippery and result in the feet shifting inside the shoes, causing calluses or blisters.

@Scrbblchick -- I've used aloe socks before. I have a real problem with my heels cracking, and putting moisturizer on my heels and then wearing the socks all night was a life saver for me.

I use this lanolin-based ointment on my heels and it works anyway, but it really works well with my aloe socks. Like you, I think they're a great deal and I thought I got my money's worth, too. The two together are a match made in heaven to keep my feet in good shape during the winter. Soft skin and warm feet – really, what more can you ask for?

I bought a pair of aloe infused socks last winter and I love them! My feet stayed so nice and soft and they were also warm, which was a bonus plan. They were really furry and comfy, and I didn't mind wearing them to bed, which helped them do their job even better.

I'm going to invest in another pair before cold weather hits. I really got so much wear out of them last year, and they were under $5 for a lot of comfort. They gave great value for the money. I was very pleased with them.
