Sagging skin is a normal development of the aging process. As an individual ages, skin begins to lose its elasticity, causing sagging or drooping of the skin. Aside from aging, significant weight loss can leave excess skin that may sag on a new, smaller frame. There are a number of ways to prevent sagging skin. Some of the most common methods include exercising, dieting, and having cosmetic surgery.

Maintaining a healthy body weight can help prevent sagging skin. Exercising can help to ensure that the body remains in good physical shape. A exercise program will keep the skin toned and tight, which will reduce sagging. Facial exercises can be used to minimize sagging skin on the face. These exercises may include movements of the face aimed towards strengthening facial muscles.

A diet can help prevent the sagging of skin, because eating healthy will diminish the possibility of excessive weight gain, which can lead to sagging skin once the weight is lost. Ideally, a health-conscious diet should include low fat foods, fruits and vegetables. Drinking water can also be beneficial when dieting, because water keeps the skin hydrated and healthy.

Natural supplements can reduce sagging by providing the body with essential nutrients it may not get during regular food and drink consumption. These supplements can contain ingredients that will help in maintaining healthy and youthful looking skin. Vitamin A helps protect the skin from pollutants by acting as an antioxidant. The basis of skin cells are formed by vitamin B; this vitamin helps to keep an even skin tone and to maintain moisture.

Collagen is a natural protein which connects and supports tissues in the body. This protein helps to keep the skin elastic and firm. When collagen starts to break down, the skin starts to sag. There are some creams that can be purchased which are specially formulated to promote collagen health to help prevent skin sagging. An individual may also opt to get injections of collagen to maintain firmness in the skin.

Cosmetic surgery may be the most expensive way to prevent sagging skin. The results are typically quicker and may last longer than noninvasive measures. A face lift is a popular type of cosmetic surgery, used to remove excessive skin from the face. The mid-section is a common place for fat to accumulate, and a tummy tuck is a way to remove sagging skin from the abdomen. Each procedure will have the overall goal of tightening the skin to provide a smoother and more firm appearance of the area.

Every individual will be affected by sagging skin at some point in life, because it is a natural progression as the body changes with age. Fortunately, there are things that can be done to slow done its appearance. Most methods are inexpensive and can be done at home.

Individuals looking for a quicker solution may opt to take more invasive measures to achieve the level of skin firmness most experienced in youth. If an individual wants professional information on caring for skin, including ways to prevent sagging as long as possible, a dermatologist can be consulted for professional advice.

@ocelot60- My sister had a tummy tuck last year, and I stayed with her to help out during the recovery process. She did have some discomfort, especially during the first few days after the surgery. However, medications that her doctor prescribed helped her, and she didn't have to take them after a week post op.

She spent two weeks off work, though she could have returned to work after about 10 days. The extra days of downtime helped her heal and recover quicker than if she had pushed herself to return to her job too soon.

Overall, she did very well, and is extremely happy with the results of her tummy tuck. She is especially pleased that she no longer has sagging skin around her stomach area.

I have been considering a tummy tuck to correct the sagging skin around my abdomen. However, I am a little concerned about the pain and downtime I will have to endure. Does anyone know exactly what to expect following tummy tuck surgery?
